Calendar of Model Railroad Events for late January 2009

January is one of the best months in the year for model railroad events. Here is a calendar of model railroad events, shows, and displays all around the country for the last half of January, 2009.

Make sure to also check local train clubs, railroad historic societies, museums and gardens for events that are close to home. Magazines, e-groups, e-forums, local hobby shops, and web sites advertise hundreds more events, shows, displays, lectures, tours, open houses, and more.

These events are really valuable for the model railroader who has questions they need answers on. Many of these events are great sources for bargains and deals on what it takes to build your model railroad. Whether you’re shopping or buying, or looking for answers and inspiration, these events can expand your model railroading horizons. available.

Through January 25,2009. Ellicott City, Maryland — CSX Transportation, Constellation Energy, Homestead Gardens, and Bachmann Industries will be sponsoring the Holiday Festival of Trains, to be held November 28th – January 25th, at the Ellicott City Station, 2711 Maryland Avenue. Hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesdays thru Sundays. Station will also be open December 29th, and 30th. The star of this year’s Festival is a miniature Thomas the Tank Engine G-scale layout along with a new Multi-level O-scale layout. On December 13th and 20th, Santa will greet visitors in station’s red caboose. Children may bring in a letter to Santa and mail it from the telegraph office. January 17, 2009. Lakewood, Colorado — The Foothills Society of Model Railroaders’ Model Railroad and Toy Train Swap Meet will be held on January 17th, at Christ on the Mountain Church, 13922 W. January 17, 2009. Stuart,Florida — The Martin County MR Train and RC Show and Sale will be held on January 17th, at Martin County Fairgrounds, 2616 Dixie Hwy. Bldg. G, A1A across from Witham Airport. Hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Attractions to include a layout, clinics, and door prizes. Admission: $5.00, adults; children under 12 admitted free. Parking is free. January 17-18, 2009. Largo, Florida — Suncoast Model Railroad Club will be holding a Train Show & Club Open House on January 17- 18th, at Minnreg Hall, 6340 126th Avenue. Hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attractions to include over 100 tables of model trains and railroad paraphernalia, and operating HO and N scale layouts at the Suncoast Model Railroad Club house across the street. January 17 to 18, 2009 Allentown, Pennsylvania — The Great Lehigh Valley Train Meet will be held on January 17-18th, at Merchants Square Mall, 1901 S. 12th Street. Hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Attractions to include over 12,000 square feet of model trains, parts, railroadiana, operating layouts, door prizes, and more. Pennsylvania, Elkins Park — The Cheltenhills Model Railroad Club will be having an Open House on January 3-4, 10-11, and 17-18, at Cheltenhills Model Railroad Club, 8000 Old York Road (at Railroad Bridge adjacent to Elkins Park Square). January 17 to 18, 2009 and January 24 to 25, 2009. Phoenixville, Pennsylvania —The Schuylkill Valley Model Railroad Club’s Annual Open House will be held January 10-11, 17-18, and 24-25th at 400 S. Hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Attractions will include the club’s layout which models Reading to Philadelphia with numerous buttons that allow visitors to bring scenes to life, Thomas the Tank, and a scavenger hunt. Hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
